Yes, Maxtrix beds are designed to be used with standard twin or full size mattresses.
However the recommended thickness of the mattress for Loft and Bunk Beds is 6″ for safety purposes as it provides more distance between the top of the mattress and the top of the guard rail.
For Maxtrix Beds that are directly on the floor (Regular Beds):even if your mattress is slightly thicker than 8″, you can still use it with the Maxtrix beds as long as the thickness does not exceed 10″.
Maxtrix Beds are tested for a capacity of 800 lbs. which means that it is safely used for a weight of 400 lbs.

First of all this gives you the opportunity to choose from a variety of finials.
Secondly, the new regulations require all Bunk Beds and Loft Beds to not have any finials. Finials are recommended for use when the beds are converted to a regular twin or full bed with no bunk or loft extensions.
The Maxtrix tower is designed to fit only over the Maxtrix low loft bed with the slide.
